Battery recycling in Cameroon: Ecopreneurs 237 webinar at the heart of FLEC training
Renewable Energy at the University of Yaoundé 1, selected as part of the 4000 Future Leaders for Energy in Cameroon (FLEC) training project, participated on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in the webinar on the fate of used batteries once decommissioned in Cameroon. The said webinar was organized by members of theEcopreneurs 237 network.
How to recycle end-of-life batteries in Cameroon?
It is on this theme that 72 green entrepreneurs and future leaders of solar energy in Cameroon were edified on the challenges and opportunities of battery recycling to improve living conditions. Mr. NKOUS Arsene, Electromechanical Engineer specializing in renewable energy, spoke to the participants about the following points: collection and brokerage methods, local tri-dismantling, second life and reconditioning, mobile route unit.
The renewable energy specialist and member of the Ecopreneur 237 network defines battery recycling as an environmental issue for a profitable economy and a sustainable business. In addition to these batteries, we obtain precious materials such as: cable, copper, manganese which allows us to collect, sort, repair and then recondition them for transport to industries for optimal production and a circular economy.
During this webinar, a participant asked the question of what materials are made from
solar batteries. The answer given by an Ecopreneur237 was: cobalt, copper, manganese.
What is the Ecopreneurs 237 network?
The Ecopreneurs Network is an initiative of CECOSDA, which brings together young people and especially women already engaged in green entrepreneurship activity. Also known as the Green Entrepreneurs Network, the Ecopreneur network aims to support, enhance and connect these changemakers who offer sustainable local solutions in response to environmental, economic and social challenges.
The members of the Ecopreneur network develop high-impact projects in areas such as recycling, ecological transformation, green manufacturing, sustainable agriculture, or the promotion of clean energy. To date, the network has forty-two (42) members active in the field of green energy.
